Mid-Range Adventure Outdoor Day 2h

Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) on the Water

Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) on the Water

Why this idea?

SUP is easy to learn (even if you fall, it's into water) and puts you in touch with nature. Seeing the horizon from the board gives a sense of peace and freedom that facilitates honest conversations.

Step by Step

  1. 1Choose a sunny day with little wind (wind makes it very hard)
  2. 2Rent boards for 1 hour
  3. 3Start paddling on your knees until you gain confidence
  4. 4Challenge each other to stand up and paddle side by side
  5. 5Stop in the middle of the water, sit on the board and just chat while floating

Checklist

  • Swimwear
  • Lots of sunscreen
  • Sunglasses with a strap (so you don't lose them in the water)
  • Towel and dry clothes for afterwards

Conversation Starters

Use these questions to keep the conversation flowing:

  • Are you a good swimmer?
  • What's your favorite beach in the world?
  • Are you afraid of the ocean depths?
  • What relaxes you more: water or forest?

Pro Tip

If one person falls, the other HAS to laugh (respectfully) and help. These moments of vulnerability and mutual help create strong bonds. Don't try to be an Olympic athlete — be the fun partner.

Red Flag Alert

Constantly complaining that the water is cold, the sun is hot, the sand is dirty... People who can't deal with nature tend to be hard to deal with in life.
